My first job

Created by Susan one year ago
I got my first job after university as an editor at Kogan Page in the mid-90s. I learned so much from Philip and the team there about book publishing, writing, editing and the power of words.

Philip spotted a market for business and personal development books long before TED Talks and Brene Brown. He gave a home to the Earthscan imprint long before books on the environment and climate change were cool. He had a talent for recognising what made a good book and how to sell a good book well.

I still remember the buzz of receiving the first copies of a book that I'd edited from the printers, the joy (and relief) of receiving completed order slips and cheques from a successful direct marketing campaign, and the furtive pride of rearranging a display at WH Smith to make sure that the Kogan Page books were face-out.

He leaves an incredible legacy - RIP.
