Philip literally gave me my first break in publishing, allowing my little newly-formed publishing company to occupy some spare office space in the Kogan Page offices at Pentonville Road at a peppercorn rent. If I solicited advice, he gave it freely and wisely. He was always right. He cut through nonsense. He was a laugh! Mischievous yet serious, irreverent and always genuinely interested in raising everyone up together. Bright to the point where he could illuminate the solution to most problems, just like that.
