I first knew Philip as a senior member of the book trade and will always remember his good humour, kindness, and generosity. He offered a rent-free office to the charity BookPower even before it contained any Kogan Page titles; and once there he made it clear that his door was always open. He also generously included me in some of his company’s social events. Although we did not meet during the past twelve years, I was always pleased to receive news of him from time to time and now offer my most sincere condolences to his family and ex-colleagues.
